The GREENtank

The GREENtank was the brainchild of the Islanders involved in the Big Green Picnic who thought that to continue the dialogue we could get together once every couple of months on an informal basis to swap ideas / information / discuss sustainability challenges and look to a more sustainable future where Eco-Island could become a reality.

Since the inaugural meeting in April 2009 the group has grown. Endless new individuals / groups driven by a desire to live a more sustainable lifestyle and wanting to get the best information on how to do it have gathered on a regular basis to discuss new ideas. The GREENtank evenings are very informal and allow a short time for people to present new ideas / information / views followed by a long period of interaction and information exchange. They work well and have served as a useful conduit for other organizations to get information out about who they are and what they do on the Island. It has now started to attract people from the mainland  some from as far north as Birmingham & to bring news of what is happening on the big Island and what we can learn from their experiences.

The website has evolved out of this to provide a links page for those involved in the meetings to be able to contact one another and source information they might need for sustainable living AND will ultimately provide a valuable resource of information on all things GREEN. We do not profess to be EXPERTS nor can we say that all the information is the best there is & as the whole business of good sustainability practice is a constantly evolving thing. All that we do pledge is to do our best to keep the website updated with the most recent information that we can and to provide a vehicle for that information exchange.
